HVAC Service Technician (Office Buildings)

The residential aircon installer in Umhlanga needs an HVAC technician who knows both the electrical side and the refrigerant side. This role rewards consistency more than flash.

Home base is a residential aircon installer on the Umhlanga side of KwaZulu-Natal. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Respond to temperature alarms from cold rooms before stock is lost
• Clean coils, replace filters and check drain lines on scheduled services
• Service cold rooms, display fridges and freezers on planned maintenance routes
• Check chiller log sheets and water treatment on building service visits
• Recover refrigerant into cylinders and log every kilogram used
• Replace thermostatic expansion valves and electronic controllers

• Understanding of single- and three-phase control circuits
• At least 2 years servicing commercial or residential systems
• Code 08 driver's licence, since the job is mostly on the road
• Brazing, flaring and vacuum skills you can demonstrate

• CO2 transcritical refrigeration experience in retail stores
• Transport refrigeration units on trucks and trailers
• Building management system alarm handling

• Gauge manifold, vacuum pump and recovery unit issued to you
• Company vehicle with a fitted tool rack
• Standby pay for weekend fridge breakdowns

• Mention whether you are comfortable on standby. Most service jobs in this trade include it.
• Your SAQCC Gas card must be current. Put the expiry date on your CV so nobody has to ask.
