ICU Registered Nurse (Day Shift)

This is a registered nursing post at a step-down and sub-acute facility in Roodepoort, with your own patient load and a say in the care plan. This role rewards consistency more than flash.

This post is in Roodepoort (Gauteng). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Take part in ward rounds with doctors and record the new orders
• Give scheduled medication, including Schedule 5 and 6 drugs, and sign the register
• Take handover at the bedside and plan care for your allocated patients
• Monitor vital signs, fluid balance and early warning scores, and escalate changes quickly
• Report adverse events and near misses on the incident system the same day
• Prepare patients for theatre and receive them back from recovery

• You can work 12-hour day or night shifts, weekends and public holidays
• Current SANC registration as a Professional Nurse, with this year's annual fees paid
• Solid knowledge of medication safety and the Nursing Act scope of practice
• Calm under pressure when a patient's condition turns quickly
• Valid BLS certificate; ACLS or PALS for ICU and emergency posts

• Experience with electronic patient records or bedside charting systems
• Unit manager or shift leader experience
• IMCI and NIMART training for primary health care work

• Study support for post-basic specialities
• Night-shift and weekend allowances on top of basic pay
• Funded CPD points and in-house clinical training
• Medical aid and pension fund contributions after probation

• Check your SANC receipt is for this year before you apply; an unpaid annual fee gets your application parked.
• For night-duty posts, say clearly in your cover note that you want permanent nights, as many applicants only want days.
