Infection Control Cleaner

Careful, trained cleaners are wanted at a frail care centre in Alberton. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

Home base is a frail care centre on the Alberton side of Gauteng. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Fill in cleaning logs so infection control can audit the ward
• Disinfect bed rails, call bells and bedside lockers
• Wear gowns, masks and gloves as each room requires
• Do terminal cleans of isolation rooms after a patient is discharged
• Handle and bag medical waste in the right coloured bins
• Clean theatres between operations to the hospital's turnaround times

• Matric or Grade 11
• Able to work shifts including weekends and night duty
• Respectful and discreet around patients
• Calm under pressure in busy wards

• Experience as a porter or general assistant in healthcare
• Knowledge of healthcare waste handling rules
• Previous hospital or clinic cleaning experience

• On-the-job infection control training
• Meal on shift at the staff canteen
• Shift allowances for nights and Sundays
• Medical aid option through the employer

• If you did an infection control course, attach the certificate. It moves you ahead of general cleaners.
• Mention any hospital, clinic or old-age home work first, even if it was short. Healthcare recruiters shortlist people who know ward routines.
