Job Description

You'll plan and teach CAPS lessons that stick at a public high school in Somerset West. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

Home base is a public high school on the Somerset West side of Western Cape. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

What you'll actually do

Plan weekly lessons against the CAPS annual teaching plan
Attend staff meetings, subject meetings and district workshops
Use data projectors, smartboards or tablets where the school has them
Meet parents to discuss progress, behaviour and support plans
Teach your allocated classes and keep the pace of the ATP
Keep learner profiles and a tidy teacher file for subject advisers

What you need

Good spoken and written command of the language of teaching
Full SACE registration (provisional registration only for student or newly qualified teachers)
A B.Ed, or a degree plus PGCE, in the phase and subject you'll teach
You can manage a class of 35 or more without losing control
Clear record on the National Register for Sex Offenders and a police clearance
At least 1 year of classroom teaching, including teaching practice

Helpful, not essential

Comfortable with Google Classroom or Microsoft Teams for homework
Honours degree in your subject or in education management
