Irrigation Assistant (Crop Farm)

Crops do not wait, and a berry tunnel farm near Middelburg (MP) needs extra hands this season. If you like clear targets and knowing where you stand, this is for you.

You'll be based at a berry tunnel farm in Middelburg (MP). Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

• Pick fruit or vegetables at the right ripeness and size, gently
• Tie up tomato and pepper plants in tunnels
• Follow the re-entry times after spraying, as the signs show
• Move irrigation pipes and check drippers for blockages
• Fill crates or bins and carry them to the collection point
• Weed beds by hand or with a hoe
• Clean and store picking bags, ladders and secateurs

• Available for the full harvest season
• Able to work outdoors in heat, cold and rain
• Valid ID or work permit
• Willing to start at sunrise
• Follows farm hygiene and safety rules
• Careful with fruit, since bruised fruit is rejected

• Previous harvest or picking experience
• Living on or near the farm

• Chance of a permanent post after good seasons
• Farm transport from nearby towns
• Piece-rate bonus on top of daily wage
• Seasonal accommodation on some farms

• If you have picked before, say which crop and how many seasons. Farms rehire experienced pickers first.
• Farms hire before the season starts, so apply four to six weeks early. Late arrivals often find the teams already full.
