Junior Bookkeeper (Xero)

You'll keep the books clean and up to date for a small accounting practice in Phalaborwa. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

This post is Phalaborwa-based, with most of your time spent at a small accounting practice. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Prepare VAT201 workings for the accountant to submit on SARS eFiling
• Load supplier payments on internet banking for authorisation
• Update customer credit limits and put accounts on hold when needed
• Capture supplier invoices and customer receipts on Sage or Xero
• Match orders, delivery notes and invoices before a payment goes out
• Post month-end journals for accruals, prepayments and depreciation
• Send customer statements and phone accounts that are over 60 days

• At least 2 years of hands-on bookkeeping or clerk work
• Practical skill in Sage Pastel, Sage Business Cloud or Xero
• Good with Excel: VLOOKUP, pivot tables and simple formulas
• Bookkeeping certificate or diploma (ICB, FASSET learnership or similar)
• Matric with Accounting
• Accurate with figures and careful with supplier bank details

• Registered with SAIPA or the ICB as a bookkeeper
• Knowledge of Sage Evolution or QuickBooks

• Thirteenth cheque at many small firms
• Paid study leave for bookkeeping exams
• Office hours with no weekend work

• Recruiters often give a short Excel or recon test, so practise a bank recon before the interview.
• Name the accounting packages you use daily in your CV headline, such as "Sage Pastel Partner, Xero, Excel".
