Job Description

You'll keep the books clean and up to date for a wholesale distributor in Soweto. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

The site is in Soweto; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

What your day looks like

  • Reconcile bank accounts daily and clear unallocated items
  • Keep the filing system in order for the annual audit or review
  • Prepare VAT201 workings for the accountant to submit on SARS eFiling
  • Post month-end journals for accruals, prepayments and depreciation
  • Reconcile creditors statements and sort out differences with suppliers

You'll need

  • Bookkeeping certificate or diploma (ICB, FASSET learnership or similar)
  • Good with Excel: VLOOKUP, pivot tables and simple formulas
  • Practical skill in Sage Pastel, Sage Business Cloud or Xero
  • At least 2 years of hands-on bookkeeping or clerk work
  • Accurate with figures and careful with supplier bank details
  • Matric with Accounting

What you get

  • Paid study leave for bookkeeping exams
  • Office hours with no weekend work
  • Hybrid work after probation at some practices

How to apply

  1. Check you meet the must-haves first; recruiters filter on those before anything else.
  2. Get these ready, because shortlisted people are asked for them straight away: matric certificate showing Accounting plus latest payslip.
  3. Send your details with the form below. Add one or two lines about similar work you've done.
  4. If you're shortlisted you'll hear from us within 6 working days, usually by phone.

How to stand out

  • Name the accounting packages you use daily in your CV headline, such as "Sage Pastel Partner, Xero, Excel".
  • Say how far you take the books, for example "to trial balance" or "to management accounts"; it tells recruiters your level.
