Junior Safety Officer (Housing Projects)

Safety files, inspections and toolbox talks: this building contractor in Pietermaritzburg needs someone who can do all three well. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

You'll be based at a building contractor in Pietermaritzburg. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

• Check that fall protection plans are in place for work at height
• Compile and maintain the site health and safety file under the Construction Regulations 2014
• Audit subcontractor safety files before they start work
• Hold toolbox talks on topics that match the week's work
• Write and review risk assessments and safe work method statements

• Confident enough to stop unsafe work, even when the programme is tight
• You write clear reports in English
• At least 2 years as a safety officer on construction sites
• First Aid Level 1 at least

• Diploma in Safety Management
• Experience on renewable energy or high-rise projects
• ISO 45001 internal auditor course

• Travel and site allowances
• Laptop and data for reporting
• Paid SACPCMP renewal and CPD

• Bring a sample risk assessment or safety file index you drew up (remove client names). It shows your work better than a list.
• Name the kind of projects you have covered, like roads, housing or wind farms. Clients want sector experience.
