Junior Safety Officer (Housing Projects)

The municipal infrastructure project in Vereeniging needs a safety officer who is on the site, not stuck in the container office. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

The site is in Vereeniging; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Inspect scaffolds, excavations and edge protection daily
• Track PPE issues and replace damaged equipment
• Prepare monthly safety statistics for the client's agent
• Check that fall protection plans are in place for work at height
• Run site inductions for every new worker and visitor
• Investigate incidents and near misses and report them on time
• Hold toolbox talks on topics that match the week's work

• You write clear reports in English
• Good understanding of the OHS Act and Construction Regulations 2014
• First Aid Level 1 at least
• Confident enough to stop unsafe work, even when the programme is tight
• At least 2 years as a safety officer on construction sites

• ISO 45001 internal auditor course
• Fall protection planner training

• Travel and site allowances
• Laptop and data for reporting
• Clear growth path to a construction health and safety agent role

• Bring a sample risk assessment or safety file index you drew up (remove client names). It shows your work better than a list.
• Name the kind of projects you have covered, like roads, housing or wind farms. Clients want sector experience.
