LHD Operator (Underground Scoop)

You'll operate heavy mining machines on shift at the open-cast coal mine near Cape Town CBD. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

This post is Cape Town CBD-based, with most of your time spent at an open-cast coal mine. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Drill blast holes to the plan depth and angle marked by the survey team
• Log loads, cycle times and machine hours on the onboard system or sheet
• Report defects and lock out the machine for the maintenance crew
• Refuel and wash the machine at the end of your shift where required
• Haul ore and waste on the haul road loop to the crusher or dump
• Push and level material on dumps and stockpiles with the dozer
• Complete the pre-use inspection checklist for your trackless mobile machine

• Valid operator certificate for the specific machine, from an MQA-accredited provider
• Clear understanding of the TMM regulations under Chapter 8 of the MHSA regulations
• Code 10 or Code 14 driver's licence
• Certificate of fitness from a mine medical practitioner
• Able to work 12-hour shifts on a rotating day and night roster

• Name the exact machine class and size you operated, like "100-ton rigid dump truck". Mines hire by machine.
• Put your operator certificate expiry dates on the CV. Expired tickets are the top reason operators get filtered out.
