Job Description

An independent primary school in Polokwane needs a teacher who can hold a class and lift the marks. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

The work is in Polokwane, Limpopo, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

What you'll actually do

  • Use data projectors, smartboards or tablets where the school has them
  • Teach your allocated classes and keep the pace of the ATP
  • Plan weekly lessons against the CAPS annual teaching plan
  • Handle classroom discipline with the school's code of conduct
  • Prepare Grade 12 learners for prelims and the NSC exams
  • Supervise break duty, sport or a cultural activity each term
  • Attend staff meetings, subject meetings and district workshops

You'll need

  • You can manage a class of 35 or more without losing control
  • Good spoken and written command of the language of teaching
  • At least 1 year of classroom teaching, including teaching practice
  • A B.Ed, or a degree plus PGCE, in the phase and subject you'll teach
  • Full SACE registration (provisional registration only for student or newly qualified teachers)

What's in it for you

  • Paid SACE CPTD workshops
  • Housing allowance for SGB and state-funded posts where it applies
  • School holidays in line with the school calendar
  • Pension and medical aid for permanent posts

Applying, step by step

  1. Check you meet the must-haves first; recruiters filter on those before anything else.
  2. Get these ready, because shortlisted people are asked for them straight away: SACE registration certificate plus certified copies of your teaching qualification and academic record.
  3. Use the form on this page. It takes about two minutes and you don't need to upload anything yet.
  4. Watch for a call or WhatsApp from How2Apply over the next 10 working days.

How to stand out

  • Mention the extra-murals you can run, as smaller schools often choose the teacher who can also coach.
  • Put your SACE number, phase and subjects on the first line of your CV; heads sort applications by subject first.
