Job Description

When the network goes down at this university IT department in Brakpan, you're the one who brings it back. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

The work is in Brakpan, Gauteng, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

The work, day to day

Work with ISPs on link faults and fibre installs
Monitor servers, links and firewalls and act on alerts
Run and test backups, and do regular restore drills
Handle access requests and keep records that support POPIA compliance
Plan hardware refreshes and licence renewals with a budget
Configure switches, VLANs, VPNs and firewall rules

You'll need

Strong Windows Server, Active Directory and Microsoft 365 skills, or Linux for Linux posts
Clear change management and documentation habits
Solid TCP/IP, routing, switching and firewall knowledge
Willing to do standby and after-hours maintenance
