Load Planner (Road Freight)

Behind every truck on the road is a controller; at a road freight company in Pietermaritzburg, that could be you. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

You'll be based at a road freight company in Pietermaritzburg. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

• Check driver hours so nobody drives too long without rest
• Arrange breakdown recovery and replacement vehicles
• Keep a register of PrDP and licence expiry dates for all drivers
• Book vehicle services, licence renewals and roadworthy tests
• Compile daily reports on trips completed and late deliveries

• Clear on the phone with drivers and customers
• At least 2 years in transport or logistics
• Matric
• Knowledge of South African road freight regulations
• Calm and decisive when things go wrong

• Experience on a vehicle telematics platform
• Previous truck driving experience
• Transport management system (TMS) experience

• Growth to transport manager
• Cellphone allowance for standby shifts
• Training on the fleet and tracking systems

• If you drove trucks before, say so. Controllers who know the road earn quick respect from drivers.
• Give the fleet size and route types you handled, for example "40 trucks, long-haul and local". Hiring managers want scale.
