Lodge Housekeeper (Game Reserve)

Check-out to check-in in under an hour, room after room, at a boutique guesthouse in Cape Town CBD. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

You'll be based at a boutique guesthouse in Cape Town CBD. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Log lost property with the guest's room number and date
• Do evening turndowns, closing curtains and setting out slippers
• Work through a room list, marking rooms clean on the housekeeping board
• Vacuum, dust and check the minibar in each room
• Strip and make beds to the hotel's standard, hospital corners included
• Keep your trolley stocked and neat before each shift
• Load, wash, dry and press linen in the hotel laundry

• Well groomed
• Grade 10 or matric
• Quick and thorough, with a target of about 14 to 16 rooms a shift
• Honest, since you work in guests' rooms alone
• Available on weekends, holidays and in peak season
• Physically able to push trolleys and turn mattresses

• Speaking a foreign language for tourist guests
• A hospitality short course or NQF Level 2 accommodation services certificate
• Experience with industrial laundry machines

• Staff accommodation at remote lodges
• Uniform supplied and laundered
• Share of the service charge or guest tips
• Meals on duty from the staff kitchen

• Write how many rooms you usually cleaned per shift. Head housekeepers care about pace as much as quality.
• Mention seasonal availability for December and Easter. Coastal and lodge properties hire heavily before those peaks.
