Machine Assistant (Plastics Moulding)

Machines set the pace at this meat processing plant in Gqeberha; you keep up and catch the faults. It suits someone who likes knowing exactly what a good day's work looks like.

You'll be based at a meat processing plant in Gqeberha. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Clean down machines and floors at the end of each run
• Follow lock-out procedures when helping with cleaning inside machines
• Feed raw material or empty packaging into the machine at the start of the line
• Help the machine operator clear jams and reload hoppers
• Stop the line with the emergency stop if anything jams or looks unsafe

• Able to stand for a full shift in a noisy, warm area
• No problem wearing full PPE, including ear protection
• Grade 10 minimum, matric an advantage
• Neat, reliable and on time for shift start
• Medically fit; some food plants ask for a medical check

• Previous work in a food or FMCG factory
• Some basic first-aid training
• Experience assisting on a packaging or filling machine

• Night-shift allowance on top of basic pay
• Company transport on some night shifts
• Staff shop with discounted factory products
• Free PPE, overalls and hairnets

• Do not wear jewellery or long nails to the interview if it is on site. Food factories notice and it counts.
• Mention that you can work rotating shifts right at the top. It is the first thing most factories filter on.
