Maintenance Assistant (School Grounds & Buildings) – Fixed-Term

Every day is different here: small repairs, painting and planned maintenance at the shopping centre in Mahikeng. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

This post is Mahikeng-based, with most of your time spent at a shopping centre. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Work through the maintenance log each morning and prioritise urgent requests
• Patch, sand and paint walls, doors and ceilings between tenants
• Clear gutters and fix minor roof leaks with sealant
• Replace tap washers, cisterns, shower heads and toilet seats
• Check fire extinguishers, emergency lights and escape routes on a monthly checklist
• Service pool pumps, gate motors and garage door openers
• Hang doors, fit locks and adjust sliding door rails

• Basic painting, tiling, plumbing and carpentry skills
• Code 08 licence to run errands to the hardware store
• Honest and trusted to work inside occupied units
• Your own tools are a plus, but safe tool handling is a must

• Basic first aid certificate
• Pool and borehole pump experience
• Gate motor and intercom repair skills

• Meals on duty at hotel sites
• Training on specialised equipment like gate motors and pool plant
• Uniform and safety boots supplied
• On-site accommodation at some estates
