Maintenance Fitter (Food Factory) – Immediate Start

Planned maintenance and breakdown work on shift at the sugar mill in East London. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

You'll be based at a sugar mill in East London. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Replace bearings, seals and couplings on pumps, gearboxes and motors
• Build and repair press tools, jigs and moulds
• Follow the lockout procedure before any work on machinery
• Program and run CNC machines from engineering drawings
• Inspect and adjust conveyors, chains and sprockets
• Align shafts with a laser alignment tool after every drive change
• Maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems on production lines

• Own basic hand tools, or willing to build up a set
• At least 2 years as a qualified artisan in a factory or workshop
• Willing to work shifts, standby and weekend shutdowns
• You read engineering drawings and measure with micrometers and verniers
• Trade test as Fitter and Turner, Fitter, Millwright or Toolmaker

• If you can machine parts as well as fit them, say so clearly. Many factories want both skills in one person.
• Write your trade and trade test year first, then the machines you know, like "Filling lines, pumps, gearboxes".
