Mathematics Teacher (FET Phase) – Experienced

A faith-based independent school in Richards Bay needs a teacher who can hold a class and lift the marks. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

This post is Richards Bay-based, with most of your time spent at a faith-based independent school. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Use data projectors, smartboards or tablets where the school has them
• Keep learner profiles and a tidy teacher file for subject advisers
• Give extra lessons to learners who are falling behind
• Meet parents to discuss progress, behaviour and support plans
• Attend staff meetings, subject meetings and district workshops

• Good spoken and written command of the language of teaching
• Full SACE registration (provisional registration only for student or newly qualified teachers)
• You can manage a class of 35 or more without losing control
• Sound knowledge of CAPS and the assessment policy for your phase
• At least 1 year of classroom teaching, including teaching practice
• A B.Ed, or a degree plus PGCE, in the phase and subject you'll teach

• Mention the extra-murals you can run, as smaller schools often choose the teacher who can also coach.
• Bring a short sample lesson to the interview; many schools ask you to teach for 15 minutes.
