Mathematics Teacher (FET Phase)

You'll plan and teach CAPS lessons that stick at a public high school in Roodepoort. Bring a calm head on busy days and you'll be fine.

This post is Roodepoort-based, with most of your time spent at a public high school. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Supervise break duty, sport or a cultural activity each term
• Set, mark and moderate formal assessment tasks for the term
• Attend staff meetings, subject meetings and district workshops
• Teach your allocated classes and keep the pace of the ATP
• Prepare Grade 12 learners for prelims and the NSC exams
• Keep learner profiles and a tidy teacher file for subject advisers
• Use data projectors, smartboards or tablets where the school has them

• A B.Ed, or a degree plus PGCE, in the phase and subject you'll teach
• Good spoken and written command of the language of teaching
• You can manage a class of 35 or more without losing control
• Clear record on the National Register for Sex Offenders and a police clearance
• At least 1 year of classroom teaching, including teaching practice
• Full SACE registration (provisional registration only for student or newly qualified teachers)

• Coaching experience in a major school sport
• Experience marking for the NSC or IEB

• Pension and medical aid for permanent posts
• Paid SACE CPTD workshops
• Housing allowance for SGB and state-funded posts where it applies

• Mention the extra-murals you can run, as smaller schools often choose the teacher who can also coach.
• Add your matric results or pass rates for your classes if they improved; hard numbers beat adjectives.
