Maths and Science Tutor (Grades 8-12)

Pick up afternoon or evening sessions with a remedial learning centre in Durban Central and put your subject knowledge to work. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

This post is Durban Central-based, with most of your time spent at a remedial learning centre. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

• Teach one-on-one or in small groups of up to six
• Assess a new learner's level with a short diagnostic test
• Log hours and sessions on the agency's booking system for payment
• Write a short progress note for parents after each session
• Work through past exam papers and marking memos with learners
• Plan sessions that target the exact topics the learner is failing
• Set practice work between sessions and check it next time

• Own transport for home tutoring posts
• Clear, patient way of explaining ideas
• Distinction or strong pass in the subject you'll tutor
• Available at least three afternoons or evenings a week
• Police clearance for work with minors

• Experience with IEB as well as CAPS papers
• TEFL or TESOL certificate for English tutoring

• Hourly rate that rises with your ratings and results
