Mechanical Fitter (Shutdowns) – Permanent

Planned maintenance and breakdown work on shift at the cement plant in Pinetown. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

Home base is a cement plant on the Pinetown side of KwaZulu-Natal. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Program and run CNC machines from engineering drawings
• Help with electrical fault-finding on motors and sensors as a millwright
• Follow the lockout procedure before any work on machinery
• Record work and spares used on the job card or CMMS
• Machine shafts, bushes and keyways on a lathe and milling machine
• Maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems on production lines
• Replace bearings, seals and couplings on pumps, gearboxes and motors

• Own basic hand tools, or willing to build up a set
• N2 or N3 engineering subjects
• At least 2 years as a qualified artisan in a factory or workshop
• You read engineering drawings and measure with micrometers and verniers
• Willing to work shifts, standby and weekend shutdowns
• Trade test as Fitter and Turner, Fitter, Millwright or Toolmaker

• Food safety awareness for food and drink plants
• CNC programming experience

• Chance to study further toward a technician diploma

• If you can machine parts as well as fit them, say so clearly. Many factories want both skills in one person.
• Write your trade and trade test year first, then the machines you know, like "Filling lines, pumps, gearboxes".
