Mechanised Development Miner (Trackless)

This underground coal colliery near Pretoria East needs a miner who makes every workplace safe before a single hole is drilled. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

This post is Pretoria East-based, with most of your time spent at an underground coal colliery. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Do the early entry examination and make the workplace safe before the crew enters
• Report misfires straight away and handle them strictly by the procedure
• Mark off drilling holes to the standard pattern and check the drilling
• Hold a start-of-shift safety talk and deal with any unsafe condition
• Test for flammable gas and check ventilation before and after blasting
• Book explosives in and out of the magazine and keep the register accurate
• Clear the area, post guards and blast on time as the blasting certificate allows

• At least 3 years underground, with at least 1 as a certificated miner
• Grade 12 or equivalent, plus the MQA-accredited miner training
• Able to lead a crew of 8 to 20 people in a language they understand
• Valid blasting certificate issued under the Mine Health and Safety Act
• No serious safety transgressions in your record
• Sound knowledge of your commodity's mining method and support standards

• First aid certificate current
• Shift Supervisor certificate or Mine Overseer learning

• Underground allowance for every shift below surface
• Production bonus based on metres or square metres achieved

• Be honest about any section 54 stoppages you were involved in and what you changed after.
• Mines check your safety record with previous employers. Mention any safety awards or zero-harm periods your crew achieved.
