MIG Welder (Trailer Manufacturing)

The pressure vessel manufacturer in Pretoria East needs a coded welder who can hold a WPS and deliver clean, sound joints. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

Location: Pretoria East, Gauteng. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Prepare joints for radiographic and dye penetrant testing
• Roll and form plate for tanks, chutes and hoppers
• Follow the welding procedure specification for every joint you weld
• Keep a hot work permit open and a fire watch in place during shutdowns
• Sign off your weld map and traceability sheets for each spool
• Grind and repair welds flagged by the QC inspector

• Willing to work shutdowns, long shifts and weekends when the plant is down
• At least 2 years of production or site welding after qualifying
• Boilermaker or welder trade test certificate, or current SAIW welder qualification
• Medical fitness certificate for industrial sites, or willing to get one
• You can read fabrication and isometric drawings without help
• Steady hands and good eyesight, with or without glasses

• Experience on structural work to AWS D1.1
• SAIW welding inspector course, even at Level 1

• Leather welding PPE and auto-darkening helmet supplied
• Coding renewals paid by the employer
• Accommodation and meals paid on out-of-town shutdowns
• Shutdown bonus and site allowance for work away from home

• List each coding separately with the standard, process, position and expiry date. "Coded welder" on its own tells a recruiter nothing.
• If you have worked shutdowns, name the type of plant, like refinery or sugar mill. It proves you know the site rules.
