MIG Welder (Trailer Manufacturing)

Strong welding and plate work for the stainless steel equipment manufacturer in Pretoria West, with real drawings and real tolerances. If you like clear targets and knowing where you stand, this is for you.

The site is in Pretoria West; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Grind and repair welds flagged by the QC inspector
• Roll and form plate for tanks, chutes and hoppers
• Follow the welding procedure specification for every joint you weld
• Prepare joints for radiographic and dye penetrant testing
• TIG weld stainless steel tanks and fittings with proper back-purging
• Keep a hot work permit open and a fire watch in place during shutdowns
• Set up MIG and flux-cored machines for long production runs

• At least 2 years of production or site welding after qualifying
• Boilermaker or welder trade test certificate, or current SAIW welder qualification
• You can read fabrication and isometric drawings without help
• Willing to work shutdowns, long shifts and weekends when the plant is down
• Valid welder coding to ISO 9606-1 or ASME IX in the processes the job needs
• Steady hands and good eyesight, with or without glasses

• Leather welding PPE and auto-darkening helmet supplied
• Accommodation and meals paid on out-of-town shutdowns
• Shutdown bonus and site allowance for work away from home

• List each coding separately with the standard, process, position and expiry date. "Coded welder" on its own tells a recruiter nothing.
• Expired codings are the number one reason welders are turned away at the gate. Check dates before you apply.
