Millwright (Production Plant) – Permanent

Bearings, gearboxes, pumps and lathes: this general engineering workshop in Alberton needs your hands on them. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

You'll report in Alberton. Relocation is not covered for this one. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Follow the lockout procedure before any work on machinery
• Program and run CNC machines from engineering drawings
• Respond to breakdowns and get the line running again safely
• Maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems on production lines
• Align shafts with a laser alignment tool after every drive change
• Inspect and adjust conveyors, chains and sprockets
• Machine shafts, bushes and keyways on a lathe and milling machine

• Own basic hand tools, or willing to build up a set
• You read engineering drawings and measure with micrometers and verniers
• Basic understanding of the General Machinery Regulations
• N2 or N3 engineering subjects
• At least 2 years as a qualified artisan in a factory or workshop
• Willing to work shifts, standby and weekend shutdowns

• CNC programming experience
• Forklift licence for moving heavy parts
• Food safety awareness for food and drink plants

• Expect a practical test. Measure twice and work cleanly, because the assessor watches your habits as much as the result.
• Write your trade and trade test year first, then the machines you know, like "Filling lines, pumps, gearboxes".
