Millwright (Production Plant)

You'll keep machines turning and parts in spec at the cement plant in Centurion. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

You'll be based at a cement plant in Centurion. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

• Record work and spares used on the job card or CMMS
• Build and repair press tools, jigs and moulds
• Replace bearings, seals and couplings on pumps, gearboxes and motors
• Machine shafts, bushes and keyways on a lathe and milling machine
• Align shafts with a laser alignment tool after every drive change

• At least 2 years as a qualified artisan in a factory or workshop
• Basic understanding of the General Machinery Regulations
• Trade test as Fitter and Turner, Fitter, Millwright or Toolmaker
• You read engineering drawings and measure with micrometers and verniers

• Hydraulic and pneumatic courses
• Forklift licence for moving heavy parts
• Millwright trade test, since it covers both mechanical and electrical

• Chance to study further toward a technician diploma
• Paid overtime on shutdowns
• Tool allowance

• Write your trade and trade test year first, then the machines you know, like "Filling lines, pumps, gearboxes".
• Expect a practical test. Measure twice and work cleanly, because the assessor watches your habits as much as the result.
