Millwright (Production Plant)

You'll keep machines turning and parts in spec at the packaging manufacturer in Coega. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

This post is Coega-based, with most of your time spent at a packaging manufacturer. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Inspect and adjust conveyors, chains and sprockets
• Respond to breakdowns and get the line running again safely
• Replace bearings, seals and couplings on pumps, gearboxes and motors
• Record work and spares used on the job card or CMMS
• Follow the lockout procedure before any work on machinery
• Build and repair press tools, jigs and moulds

• You read engineering drawings and measure with micrometers and verniers
• Basic understanding of the General Machinery Regulations
• Willing to work shifts, standby and weekend shutdowns
• At least 2 years as a qualified artisan in a factory or workshop

• Millwright trade test, since it covers both mechanical and electrical
• Food safety awareness for food and drink plants

• Paid overtime on shutdowns
• Chance to study further toward a technician diploma
• Tool allowance

• Write your trade and trade test year first, then the machines you know, like "Filling lines, pumps, gearboxes".
• Expect a practical test. Measure twice and work cleanly, because the assessor watches your habits as much as the result.
