Mine Safety Officer (Underground)

You'll make safety real on the ground at the mining contractor on a platinum lease near Rustenburg, not just on paper. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

The work is in Rustenburg, North West, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

• Track safety statistics like LTIFR and report them each month
• Help run emergency drills and check refuge bays
• Review baseline and issue-based risk assessments with section managers
• Lead incident investigations using a root cause method
• Prepare for inspections by the mine inspector and follow up on instructions
• Train safety representatives and support the health and safety committee

• Registered with SAIOSH, or working toward it
• Confident writing investigation reports and presenting findings
• Detailed knowledge of the MHSA and its regulations
• At least 3 years in a safety role at a mine
• Certificate of fitness to go underground or into the pit
• SAMTRAC or an MQA-accredited mine safety qualification

• Mine rescue training
• ISO 45001 auditing experience
• Diploma or degree in Safety Management or Environmental Health

• Company vehicle on site
• Standby allowance for incident call-outs
• CPD and further study funded
• Retirement fund and medical aid

• Give numbers: how many investigations you led, or how the LTIFR changed in your section.
• Mention the commodity and whether you worked underground. Mines prefer someone who knows their hazards.
