Mine Security Supervisor

You'll run a shift of officers at a mining operation in Pietermaritzburg, keeping posts covered and standards high. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

Location: Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Investigate incidents and write reports for the client
• Plan the monthly roster to stay within legal working hours
• Do surprise night visits to check posts
• Inspect guards on post for uniform, alertness and OB entries
• Handle discipline issues fairly and keep written records
• Run on-site training on procedures and emergency drills
• Meet the client weekly on security concerns

• Valid Code 8 licence and willing to drive between sites
• PSIRA Grade B (Grade A for area manager posts)
• Confident writer of incident reports and rosters
• Firm with staff but fair and consistent
• At least 3 years in security, including 1 as a supervisor

• Handgun competency for armed supervisor posts
• Mining or hospital security experience
• Own reliable vehicle

• Management training for growth to operations manager
• Provident fund and funeral cover
• Company vehicle or car allowance on area roles

• Mention how you handled absenteeism or roster gaps. It is the biggest daily headache for security companies.
• Say how many officers you supervised and on which sites. The number matters more than the title.
