Miner (Conventional Gold Mining)

Underground, the miner sets the pace and the safety standard. This deep-level gold mine near Secunda needs that person. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

The work is in Secunda, Mpumalanga, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Clear the area, post guards and blast on time as the blasting certificate allows
• Hold a start-of-shift safety talk and deal with any unsafe condition
• Record face advance, tons broken and support installed on the shift report
• Stop work when a condition is unsafe, using your right to withdraw
• Bar down loose rock and install support to the section's support standard

• Grade 12 or equivalent, plus the MQA-accredited miner training
• Sound knowledge of your commodity's mining method and support standards
• Able to lead a crew of 8 to 20 people in a language they understand
• No serious safety transgressions in your record

• Shift Supervisor certificate or Mine Overseer learning
• First aid certificate current
• Rock engineering or ventilation short courses

• Medical aid and mine medical station access
• Underground allowance for every shift below surface
• Production bonus based on metres or square metres achieved
• Housing or living-out allowance

• List each mine, commodity and mining method on your CV, like "conventional stoping, platinum, 4 years".
• Write your blasting certificate number and date of issue near the top of the CV.
