Mobile Crane Operator (Up to 50 Ton) – Permanent

You'll move earth, dig trenches and shape roads for the road construction contractor in Centurion. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

You'll be based at a road construction contractor in Centurion. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Cut and trim road layers to level with the grader
• Dig trenches for pipes and cables to the depth and grade set by the surveyor
• Backfill and compact around pipes in layers
• Watch for underground services and follow the banksman's signals
• Do the pre-start checklist on your machine before the first bucket
• Park the machine on level ground and lock it when you knock off
• Compact layers with the roller until density tests pass

• Good depth perception and no history of machine accidents
• Willing to work on projects outside your home town
• Operator certificate for the machine class, from an accredited training provider
• Valid Code 10 licence for moving machines on public roads
• At least 2 years operating the machine on construction sites

• GPS machine control experience on excavators or graders
• Basic plant maintenance or mechanical knowledge
• Certificates on more than one machine type

• Overtime paid on all hours past 45 a week
• Camp accommodation or a living-out allowance on remote sites
• Refresher training on new machines
• Travel home paid at the end of each site shift cycle

• Put your operator certificate numbers on the CV. Site safety files need them before you start.
• List each machine with its size, for example "20-ton excavator, 4 years". Plant managers match you to the machine they need.
