Montessori Assistant (Casa Class)

Songs, stories, sandpits and routines: help a primary school aftercare programme in Pretoria West give children a strong start. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

Home base is a primary school aftercare programme on the Pretoria West side of Gauteng. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Set up daily learning areas for art, blocks, reading and fantasy play
• Prepare simple, nutritious snacks and keep the kitchen hygienic
• Feed, change and settle babies and toddlers on their routine
• Follow the NCF daily programme and adapt it for each age group
• Chat to parents at drop-off and pick-up about how the day went
• Watch children closely outside and keep the play area safe

• Paediatric first aid certificate
• ECD Level 4 or Level 5 qualification, or currently studying towards one
• Matric
• Experience caring for children in a group setting, even as a volunteer
• Clear Form 30 child protection check and police clearance

• Speak more than one home language of the children you'll teach
• Basic music, art or movement skills for group activities
• Experience with children with special needs

• Lunch provided on school days
• Sponsored ECD Level 5 studies
• Short holiday closures over December and Easter

• Put your ECD level and first aid certificate in the first lines of your CV; creches check these before anything else.
• Apply for the Form 30 check early, as it can take weeks and many creches won't appoint without it.
