Motor Mechanic (Independent Workshop) – Fixed-Term

Fix it right the first time: that is the job at this independent service workshop in Umhlanga. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

You'll report in Umhlanga. Relocation is not covered for this one. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Carry out scheduled services to the manufacturer's checklist and interval
• Carry out roadworthy pre-checks on lights, brakes and steering
• Replace clutches, brake pads, discs, shocks and timing belts
• Road test vehicles before and after repairs
• Update control unit software when the manufacturer releases a campaign
• Diagnose engine, ABS and airbag faults with an OBD-II diagnostic scanner
• Do wheel alignments and balancing on the alignment bay

• Motor mechanic trade test certificate (Red Seal) or occupational certificate at NQF 4
• Code 08 licence so you can road test cars
• At least 3 years as a qualified mechanic in a dealership or workshop
• Neat with customer vehicles: seat covers, floor mats and no grease marks
• Able to meet flat-rate or sold-hour targets
• Your own basic toolbox
