Nursery Worker (Seedlings)

Outdoor work with your hands on a deciduous fruit orchard near Cape Town CBD; no experience needed for most posts. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

The site is in Cape Town CBD; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. Start date: as soon as possible for the right person.

• Fill crates or bins and carry them to the collection point
• Plant seedlings in rows at the spacing shown
• Keep your picking card or tag count for daily pay
• Tie up tomato and pepper plants in tunnels
• Weed beds by hand or with a hoe
• Move irrigation pipes and check drippers for blockages
• Clean and store picking bags, ladders and secateurs

• Careful with fruit, since bruised fruit is rejected
• Valid ID or work permit
• Willing to start at sunrise
• Able to work outdoors in heat, cold and rain
• Physically fit for bending, lifting and climbing ladders
• Follows farm hygiene and safety rules

• Tractor or quad bike experience
• Living on or near the farm
• Pruning experience on vines or fruit trees

• Piece-rate bonus on top of daily wage
• Seasonal accommodation on some farms
• Chance of a permanent post after good seasons
• Farm transport from nearby towns

• Farms hire before the season starts, so apply four to six weeks early. Late arrivals often find the teams already full.
• If you have picked before, say which crop and how many seasons. Farms rehire experienced pickers first.
