Nursery Worker (Seedlings)

You'll pick, prune and look after crops on a vegetable farm near Cape Town CBD through the season. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

Home base is a vegetable farm on the Cape Town CBD side of Western Cape. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Wash hands and use the field toilets for food safety
• Prune and thin fruit trees and vines to the farm's method
• Weed beds by hand or with a hoe
• Plant seedlings in rows at the spacing shown
• Pick fruit or vegetables at the right ripeness and size, gently
• Tie up tomato and pepper plants in tunnels

• Available for the full harvest season
• Follows farm hygiene and safety rules
• Careful with fruit, since bruised fruit is rejected
• Valid ID or work permit
• Able to work outdoors in heat, cold and rain
• Willing to start at sunrise

• Tractor or quad bike experience
• Previous harvest or picking experience
• Living on or near the farm

• Chance of a permanent post after good seasons
• Seasonal accommodation on some farms
• Piece-rate bonus on top of daily wage

• If you have picked before, say which crop and how many seasons. Farms rehire experienced pickers first.
• Farms hire before the season starts, so apply four to six weeks early. Late arrivals often find the teams already full.
