Nursery Worker (Seedlings)

Crops do not wait, and a vegetable farm near George needs extra hands this season. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

This post is George-based, with most of your time spent at a vegetable farm. Start date: as soon as possible for the right person.

• Prune and thin fruit trees and vines to the farm's method
• Plant seedlings in rows at the spacing shown
• Weed beds by hand or with a hoe
• Move irrigation pipes and check drippers for blockages
• Keep your picking card or tag count for daily pay
• Tie up tomato and pepper plants in tunnels

• Follows farm hygiene and safety rules
• Willing to start at sunrise
• Careful with fruit, since bruised fruit is rejected
• Available for the full harvest season
• Able to work outdoors in heat, cold and rain

• Living on or near the farm
• Pruning experience on vines or fruit trees

• Piece-rate bonus on top of daily wage
• Chance of a permanent post after good seasons
• Seasonal accommodation on some farms

• If you have picked before, say which crop and how many seasons. Farms rehire experienced pickers first.
• Farms hire before the season starts, so apply four to six weeks early. Late arrivals often find the teams already full.
