Nursing Assistant (Rehabilitation Unit)

A home-based care agency in East London needs someone kind and reliable to look after patients who can't manage alone. It suits someone who likes knowing exactly what a good day's work looks like.

The work is in East London, Eastern Cape, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Help patients bath, dress, eat and use the toilet with dignity
• Help patients walk, transfer from bed to chair and do their exercises
• Follow infection control rules, including hand hygiene and safe sharps disposal
• Make beds, change linen and keep the rooms clean and uncluttered
• Keep the fluid and food intake charts accurate for every patient
• Do simple wound dressings and report anything that looks infected

• Accredited home-based care or ancillary health care certificate for caregiver posts
• Able to work shifts, including nights and weekends
• SANC enrolment as an Enrolled Nurse or Enrolled Nursing Auxiliary for nursing posts
• At least 1 year of hands-on patient care
• First aid Level 1 or BLS certificate
• Matric or NQF Level 4 equivalent

• Dementia care or palliative care short course
• Code B or Code 8 driver's licence for home visits
• A second South African language spoken by the patients you'll serve

• Overtime paid at time and a half
• Uniform supplied
• Paid training in dementia and end-of-life care
• Transport home after late shifts at some facilities

• Recruiters phone references for care jobs, so warn your references and check their numbers still work.
• If you're a caregiver, attach the certificate from the training provider, not just a letter saying you attended.
