Job Description

This is a registered nursing post at a mine health centre in Pietermaritzburg, with your own patient load and a say in the care plan. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

Home base is a mine health centre on the Pietermaritzburg side of KwaZulu-Natal. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

The work, day to day

Run emergency trolley checks and respond to cardiac arrest calls
Do wound care, catheter care and IV line management to unit protocol
Take handover at the bedside and plan care for your allocated patients
Keep clinical notes clear, timed and signed for audits and legal records
Monitor vital signs, fluid balance and early warning scores, and escalate changes quickly
Take part in ward rounds with doctors and record the new orders

What you need

Valid BLS certificate; ACLS or PALS for ICU and emergency posts
Nursing qualification via the R425 diploma or R174 degree route
Current SANC registration as a Professional Nurse, with this year's annual fees paid
Calm under pressure when a patient's condition turns quickly
Clean criminal record

Helpful, not essential

Dispensing licence (Section 22A(15)) for clinic posts
Experience with electronic patient records or bedside charting systems
