Job Description

You'll make safety real on the ground at the mineral processing plant near Polokwane, not just on paper. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

You'll report in Polokwane. Relocation is not covered for this one. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

What your day looks like

  • Track safety statistics like LTIFR and report them each month
  • Lead incident investigations using a root cause method
  • Keep legal appointments and code of practice records current
  • Train safety representatives and support the health and safety committee
  • Inspect workplaces underground and on surface against the MHSA and the mine's standards
  • Help run emergency drills and check refuge bays
  • Review baseline and issue-based risk assessments with section managers

What you need

  • At least 3 years in a safety role at a mine
  • Confident writing investigation reports and presenting findings
  • Detailed knowledge of the MHSA and its regulations
  • Code 08 licence for moving around the mine property
  • Registered with SAIOSH, or working toward it

Helpful, not essential

  • Occupational hygiene registration with the relevant council
  • Mine rescue training

What you get

  • Standby allowance for incident call-outs
  • Retirement fund and medical aid
  • Company vehicle on site
