Off-Site Video Monitoring Operator

From a chair in an armed response control room in Pietermaritzburg, you guide officers in the field to where they are needed. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

Location: Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Pull and save video footage for incident investigations
• Talk down intruders over on-site speakers when the system allows
• Monitor live CCTV feeds and zoom in on suspicious movement
• Report camera faults and offline sites to the technicians
• Dispatch the nearest response vehicle over the radio
• Hand over open incidents clearly at shift change

• Clear speaking voice on radio and phone
• Good memory for sites, streets and procedures
• PSIRA registration, Grade C or higher
• Matric
• Able to stay focused through 12-hour day and night shifts

• Call centre work in the past
• CCTV operator short course

• Path to senior controller or supervisor
• Shift allowance for nights
• Training on the monitoring software

• Some companies give a typing and map test. Practise finding streets on a map quickly before the interview.
• Show you can stay alert at night. If you have done night shift before without problems, say so.
