Off-Site Video Monitoring Operator

Night or day, a shopping mall security office in Sandton never switches off, and neither does your focus on shift. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

This post is Sandton-based, with most of your time spent at a shopping mall security office. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

• Keep call-out times and client passwords up to date
• Talk down intruders over on-site speakers when the system allows
• Pull and save video footage for incident investigations
• Dispatch the nearest response vehicle over the radio
• Answer alarm signals and phone clients to verify them
• Monitor live CCTV feeds and zoom in on suspicious movement
• Log every event and action on the monitoring software

• No criminal convictions (vetting is done before you start)
• PSIRA registration, Grade C or higher
• Able to stay focused through 12-hour day and night shifts
• Clear speaking voice on radio and phone
• Good memory for sites, streets and procedures

• Call centre work in the past
• Experience on a CCTV or alarm monitoring platform
• CCTV operator short course

• Training on the monitoring software
• Path to senior controller or supervisor
• Indoor, air-conditioned work environment
• Shift allowance for nights

• Some companies give a typing and map test. Practise finding streets on a map quickly before the interview.
• Mention any software you have used: alarm monitoring, CCTV or even call centre systems. Control rooms need people who learn screens fast.
