Orchard Worker (Pruning and Thinning)

Outdoor work with your hands on a deciduous fruit orchard near Secunda; no experience needed for most posts. It suits someone who likes knowing exactly what a good day's work looks like.

The site is in Secunda; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. Start date: as soon as possible for the right person.

• Wash hands and use the field toilets for food safety
• Clean and store picking bags, ladders and secateurs
• Pick fruit or vegetables at the right ripeness and size, gently
• Fill crates or bins and carry them to the collection point
• Keep your picking card or tag count for daily pay
• Plant seedlings in rows at the spacing shown

• Physically fit for bending, lifting and climbing ladders
• Careful with fruit, since bruised fruit is rejected
• Available for the full harvest season
• Able to work outdoors in heat, cold and rain
• Valid ID or work permit
• Follows farm hygiene and safety rules

• Previous harvest or picking experience
• Pruning experience on vines or fruit trees

• Farm transport from nearby towns
• Seasonal accommodation on some farms

• Have your bank details ready. Most farms pay into a bank account and will not start you without it.
