Painter (New Builds & Refurbishments)

The housing development site in Bethlehem needs skilled hands and helpers who know the basics of the building trade. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

Location: Bethlehem, Free State. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Clean your tools and sweep your work area before knocking off
• Wear your hard hat, boots and harness wherever the foreman says
• Lay paving on a compacted, levelled bedding sand layer
• Carry bricks and materials to the workface and keep the scaffold clear
• Cut, bend and tie reinforcing steel to the bending schedule
• Tile floors, showers and splashbacks, including cutting around fittings
• Lay face brick and plaster brick to line, level and plumb

• Willing to move between sites in the same city
• Proven experience in at least one trade, shown by references or a practical test
• Physically strong enough for a full day of lifting and bending outside
• Safety boots of your own for the first week, if possible
• Able to follow a foreman's instructions and read basic measurements
• Punctual every morning, even in winter

• Weekly or fortnightly pay, always on time
• Transport from a pick-up point to site
• PPE supplied: hard hat, gloves, reflective vest

• Be ready to do a short practical test on site. Arrive early with your own tools if you have them.
• Bring photos of your work on your phone. A foreman believes a straight wall more than a long CV.
