Painter's Assistant (Renovations)

You'll mix, carry, dig and clean up so the tradespeople on a shopping centre renovation in Vanderbijlpark can keep building. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

This post is in Vanderbijlpark (Gauteng). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Start date: as soon as possible for the right person.

• Clean tools, mixers and wheelbarrows at the end of each day
• Sign the daily safety talk register before work starts
• Dig trenches and foundations to the depth the foreman marks
• Set up barriers, cones and signs around open trenches
• Cut and lay paving bricks along string lines
• Help offload deliveries of steel, timber and pipes

• You take safety rules seriously and wear full PPE
• Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan
• Physically strong and fit for outdoor work in all weather
• Grade 8 or higher
• A clean record is preferred for some government sites
• Willing to start early, often at 06:30

• A working-at-heights or scaffolding ticket
• Previous site work you can show with a reference
• Living near the site (many projects hire local labour)

• Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant
• Overtime on weekend pours and deadline days
• Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site

• List past sites by name and what you did there, like "mixed concrete, laid kerbs". It proves you have done real site work.
• Government-funded projects often reserve jobs for people from the local ward. Bring proof of address and ask the site office about the local labour desk.
