Job Description

The gate at an office tower in Gqeberha is the first line of safety, and you would be standing at it. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

You'll be based at an office tower in Gqeberha. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

The work, day to day

  • Check visitors' IDs and capture them on the visitor app or in the gate register
  • Watch for loitering, broken fencing and open doors during night patrols
  • Test the panic button and radio when you come on duty
  • Open and close boom gates for residents, deliveries and contractors
  • Write every incident and shift change in the occurrence book (OB)

What you need

  • Alert, polite and firm with the public
  • Grade 10 minimum; matric preferred
  • Clear, neat handwriting for the OB and registers
  • Able to work 12-hour day and night shifts, including weekends

Helpful, not essential

  • A Code 8 licence for vehicle patrols
  • First-aid Level 1 certificate
  • Previous experience at a similar site type

On offer

  • Stable long-term site contracts
  • Provident fund contributions
  • Chance to be upgraded to Grade B with training

How to apply

  1. Make sure the role, the hours and working in Gqeberha really suit you before you apply.
  2. Keep copies of these ready to send: Grade 10 or matric certificate, PSIRA certificate and valid registration card plus previous security employers' contact details.
  3. Send your details with the form below. Add one or two lines about similar work you've done.
  4. If you're shortlisted you'll hear from us within 10 working days, usually by phone.

Your application joins the How2Apply talent pool for this role, and we put shortlisted people forward to employers hiring in and around Gqeberha.

How2Apply never charges you to apply, for training, for uniforms or for a "placement fee". If anyone asks you for money, it is a scam.

Tips to get shortlisted

  • Arrive for the interview in neat clothes with your certificates in a plastic sleeve. It shows the discipline they want.
  • Make sure your PSIRA fees are paid. A lapsed registration gets your CV thrown out, even if you have years of experience.
