Paving Layer (Interlocking Pavers)

The low-cost housing project in Germiston needs skilled hands and helpers who know the basics of the building trade. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

This post is in Germiston (Gauteng). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Start date: as soon as possible for the right person.

• Clean your tools and sweep your work area before knocking off
• Lay paving on a compacted, levelled bedding sand layer
• Tile floors, showers and splashbacks, including cutting around fittings
• Mix mortar and plaster to the right ratio for the job
• Prime and paint walls, ceilings and woodwork in two or three coats

• Understands basic site safety like scaffolds and open trenches
• Safety boots of your own for the first week, if possible
• Proven experience in at least one trade, shown by references or a practical test
• Able to follow a foreman's instructions and read basic measurements
• Punctual every morning, even in winter
• Willing to move between sites in the same city

• Experience on NHBRC-registered housing projects
• Trade test in bricklaying, carpentry or plastering

• UIF and COIDA registration from day one
• Weekly or fortnightly pay, always on time
• Transport from a pick-up point to site

• Say which trade you are strongest in first. "Bricklayer, 6 years, face brick" is better than "general construction".
• Bring photos of your work on your phone. A foreman believes a straight wall more than a long CV.
