Paving Layer (Interlocking Pavers)

Good, straight work gets noticed on this low-cost housing project in Somerset West, and so does turning up every day. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

Location: Somerset West, Western Cape. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Tile floors, showers and splashbacks, including cutting around fittings
• Fix roof trusses, purlins and brandering for ceilings
• Lay paving on a compacted, levelled bedding sand layer
• Clean your tools and sweep your work area before knocking off
• Plaster walls and float them to a smooth, even finish
• Prime and paint walls, ceilings and woodwork in two or three coats

• Proven experience in at least one trade, shown by references or a practical test
• Physically strong enough for a full day of lifting and bending outside
• Willing to move between sites in the same city
• Understands basic site safety like scaffolds and open trenches
• Able to follow a foreman's instructions and read basic measurements

• UIF and COIDA registration from day one
• Transport from a pick-up point to site
• PPE supplied: hard hat, gloves, reflective vest
• Weekly or fortnightly pay, always on time

• Be ready to do a short practical test on site. Arrive early with your own tools if you have them.
• Say which trade you are strongest in first. "Bricklayer, 6 years, face brick" is better than "general construction".
