Paving Team Labourer – Fixed-Term

Hard outdoor work on a shopping centre renovation in Fourways, with a chance to learn a trade while you earn. Bring a calm head on busy days and you'll be fine.

You'll report in Fourways. Relocation is not covered for this one. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Compact soil and layer bedding sand with a plate compactor
• Erect and strip shutters and simple scaffolding under supervision
• Help offload deliveries of steel, timber and pipes
• Sign the daily safety talk register before work starts
• Set up barriers, cones and signs around open trenches
• Carry bricks, blocks and cement bags to where the bricklayers work
• Clean tools, mixers and wheelbarrows at the end of each day

• Willing to start early, often at 06:30
• Grade 8 or higher
• A clean record is preferred for some government sites
• Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan
• Physically strong and fit for outdoor work in all weather

• Living near the site (many projects hire local labour)
• Previous site work you can show with a reference
• A working-at-heights or scaffolding ticket

• Overtime on weekend pours and deadline days
• Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant
• Paid weekly or fortnightly
• Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site

• Government-funded projects often reserve jobs for people from the local ward. Bring proof of address and ask the site office about the local labour desk.
• If a foreman can vouch for you, put their number on your CV. Site hiring runs on word of mouth.
