Paving Team Labourer

Every wall and slab on this school building project in Tzaneen needs labourers, and the crew needs one more. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

Location: Tzaneen, Limpopo. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Clear rubble and load it into skips
• Set up barriers, cones and signs around open trenches
• Help offload deliveries of steel, timber and pipes
• Sign the daily safety talk register before work starts
• Pass tools and materials to the plumber or electrician as needed
• Cut and lay paving bricks along string lines

• Prepared to travel between sites in the area
• You take safety rules seriously and wear full PPE
• Grade 8 or higher
• Physically strong and fit for outdoor work in all weather
• A clean record is preferred for some government sites
• Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan

• Living near the site (many projects hire local labour)
• Some experience with a jackhammer, grinder or plate compactor

• Overtime on weekend pours and deadline days
• Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site
• Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant

• Government-funded projects often reserve jobs for people from the local ward. Bring proof of address and ask the site office about the local labour desk.
• If a foreman can vouch for you, put their number on your CV. Site hiring runs on word of mouth.
