Pharmacist's Assistant (Basic, Retail Pharmacy)

Accuracy is everything in this primary health care clinic dispensary in Newcastle; one checked label at a time. It suits someone who likes knowing exactly what a good day's work looks like.

Location: Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Pick, count and label medicine for the pharmacist's final check
• Receive stock, check expiry dates and pack shelves first-expiry-first-out
• Help customers choose over-the-counter and front-shop products
• Do cycle counts and flag stock discrepancies to the responsible pharmacist
• Process medical aid claims and fix rejections before the patient leaves
• Explain dosage, storage and side effects to patients in plain language
• Log Schedule 5 and 6 items in the register as they go out

• Accurate with numbers and careful with labels
• Friendly and clear at a busy counter
• Able to work Saturdays and some Sundays on a rotation
• Working knowledge of a dispensing system such as Unisolv, Proscript or Healthbridge-linked software
• Matric with Maths or Maths Literacy

• Experience with stock ordering through a wholesaler portal
• Registered for the Post-Basic qualification if you currently hold Basic
